Illinois State Police not releasing more details on I&M Canal path slaying

Illinois State Police are not releasing more information on the slaying of a 29-year-old man near the Brand Road access of the I&M Canal path.

State police have been investigating the death of Floyd Faint Jr., who was found dead Saturday morning on the canal path. Police said Faint was shot multiple times.

In response to questions Tuesday, Illinois State Police spokeswoman DeAnn Falat said in an email that the investigation of Faint’s death is ongoing and “no further information is being released at this time.”

State and Rockdale police shut down the access points to the canal path at Larkin Avenue and Brandon Road while Faint’s death was investigated.

A Rockdale resident who asked not to be identified said he heard four gunshots about 6 a.m. Saturday.

Faint’s family remembered him as a loving father and a kind person.

“He had the biggest heart ever,” his uncle Quentin Winston said.

Faint is only the second homicide victim to have been found on the canal path in Will County in almost 19 years.

In September 2000, cyclists heard gunshots and called police. Responding officers found the body of 48-year-old Michael Sarniak lying in the towpath about a quarter mile from the Interstate 55 west frontage road access to the trail in Channahon.
