The Romeoville Police Department will host a free, 12-week program allowing participants to get to know members of the department and better understand why officers make the decisions they do.
The department is accepting applications through Aug. 23 for the Citizen’s Police Academy. The first class is scheduled from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 3.
The academy program will cover several topics including gangs, criminal and traffic law, traffic stops, firearms safety, K-9 units and more.
Students must be at least 18 years of age. Priority will be given to residents of Romeoville. The class will run each Tuesday for 12 weeks.
Applications can be picked up, dropped off at or mailed to the Romeoville Police Department at 1050 W. Romeo Road.
Applicants also can download the form on the village website, fill it out and drop it off at the police department. Applications are due by Aug. 23.
