A 28-year-old Joliet man was arrested after striking his girlfriend while she was driving her car, causing her to hit an oncoming car in another lane, police said.

About 7:45 p.m. Aug. 9, Joliet police received a report of a car crash at Black Road and Woodlawn Avenue, Joliet police Sgt. Christopher Botzum said.

Botzum said that when Che R. Jones, of the 900 block of Woods Avenue, struck his girlfriend, he caused her to drive into oncoming traffic.

Jones’ girlfriend was driving east on Black Road approaching Woodlawn Avenue when she went into the westbound lane and struck another car, he said.

Officers located Jones several blocks from the crash, Botzum said. He was hospitalized for his injuries from the crash and then arrested on probable cause for domestic battery and reckless conduct, he said.

Botzum said the girlfriend had suffered an injury after Jones struck her. He also said the driver of the other car complained of chest pains, but was not hospitalized for his injuries.

Jones’ girlfriend had two of her children in the car during the incident, but they were not hurt, Botzum said.

The Will County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Jones with aggravated assault, domestic battery, child endangerment, reckless conduct and violation of bail bond, according to court records.

Jones is being held at the Will County jail, with bail set at $100,000.

Jones’ next court date is Sept. 3.
