Rachel Ventura, who is challenging U.S. Rep. Bill Foster in the 2020 Democratic primary, received her first national-level endorsement from a progressive political group.
Blue America PAC, a progressive political action committee, endorsed the Will County Board member.
"Rachel has been a strong voice for the environment on the County Board, and she will be a fierce fighter for climate justice as a member of ... Congress," the PAC said in a statement.
Ventura also touted support from the Progressives of Kane County. She launched her challenge in July.
"I look forward to working with Blue America once elected to grow an even stronger progressive majority," Ventura said.
The Joliet progressive was elected to the County Board to represent the 9th District in 2018. Foster has represented the 11th since 2013. The Illinois primary election will be held on March 17.
