Man dies after crash in Manhattan

A 37-year-old Crestwood man died Tuesday after a crash in Manhattan.

Illinois State Police responded just before 3:15 p.m. Tuesday to a reported crash near the intersection of Route 52 and Cedar Road, according to a news release from state police.

Sergio Hernandez-Sanchez was driving a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup north on Cedar Road toward Route 52, according to a preliminary investigation.

A 19-year-old Grant Park man was driving a 2005 Ford Freestar south on Route 52 when Hernandez-Sanchez turned north onto the roadway.

The Grant Park man’s vehicle and Hernandez-Sanchez’s Dodge collided near the intersection of the two roads.

Hernandez-Sanchez was ejected from the pickup as it rolled, according to the release. He was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where he died from his injuries.

State police continued to investigate the fatal crash Wednesday.
