Joliet Public Schools District 86 has increased the daily rate for substitute teachers to $130 a day, up from $115.
Substitute teachers who work more than 60 days in the district receive a pay rate increase to $140 a day, according to a news release. The district approved the increase at its board of inspectors meeting last week.
“We always have a need for quality substitute teachers,” Cheryl Woods-Clendening, the district’s assistant superintendent for human resources and labor relations, said in the release. “Guest teachers are a valuable member of our educational family who help maintain a positive classroom environment when a teacher is absent.”
Substitute teachers do not need a teaching background and can be retirees, stay-at-home parents wishing to work a few times a month, or those with flexible job schedules. Substitute teachers must have a bachelor’s degree and a substitute license or professional education license.
Information on substitute teaching is available on the district’s website.
