A Crete man was arrested after he threatened a man with a pistol and fired off a shot into the air, police said.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, Will County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 3000 block of East Danne Road after receiving a report of gunfire at a residence on that street, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.

The deputies spoke with a man who said he was from a law firm and went to serve legal papers to Marcello Biggs, 47, Hoffmeyer said.

The man said he was knocking on the door, saw someone was inside and then kept knocking on the door, she said.

As the man began to leave, Biggs opened the door while armed with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun, Hoffmeyer said.

Biggs told the man that he had “five seconds” to get off his property, Hoffmeyer said. The man then went into his car and drove away from the home.

While he was leaving, he heard a gunshot and called 911, Hoffmeyer said.

As the deputies were speaking with the man trying to serve papers, they saw Biggs enter his vehicle and drive away, Hoffmeyer said. The deputies stopped him and spoke with him, she said.

Biggs told deputies that he fired his gun into the air, Hoffmeyer said.

Biggs was arrested on two charges of possession of a weapon by felon.

About 11:20 p.m. Sunday, Biggs was booked into the Will County jail.

He remained in custody at the jail as of Monday afternoon.
