1 dead, 1 critical after Joliet shooting early Thursday

Police ask for public's help with ongoing homicide investigation

One Joliet man is dead and another is critically injured after an overnight shooting in the city’s Ridgewood neighborhood.

Joliet police responded just after 1:45 a.m. Thursday to the intersection of Krakar and Elgin avenues for a shooting, according to a news release from the department. When emergency personnel arrived, they found two victims in the area.

The pair, a 33-year-old Joliet man and a 19-year-old Joliet man, were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where the 33-year-old later died.

The 19-year-old was considered critical later Thursday, according to the release.

Joliet police are investigating the homicide and asked for the public’s assistance.

Any resident or business that has surveillance videos of suspicious activity between the hours of 12:30 and 2 a.m. Thursday is encouraged to contact the Investigation Unit at 815-724-3020.

The area of focus is from east of Walnut Street to Briggs Street and north of Cass Street to Copperfield Avenue.

Anyone with information related to the incident can also submit information anonymously at 800-323-6734 or online at crimestoppersofwillcounty.org.

The Will County Coroner’s Office did not provide any information about the man who died later Thursday.
