Almost eight months after Javier’s death, police said the juveniles, later identified as boys who attended Dirksen Junior High School with Javier, are not cooperating with officials.
“Although detectives have made significant progress in that case, the lack of cooperation from those juveniles has really hampered their efforts,” Joliet police Sgt. Christopher Botzum said. “We are aware that they have much more information to share and possibly even know who the shooter was.”
Lopez and her daughter said they have not heard anything substantial from the police since Javier’s death, but they do remember much of what happened to their loved one.
“Before we moved to Joliet, Javier was really, really doing so good in school,” Lizbet said. “We were so proud of him. He was joining a soccer team, he was in this group that they have in Jane Addams where they teach kids to be better and to do better.”
