The Providence Catholic girls basketball team won the title at the Beecher LadyCat Classic with a 44-33 victory over the host in the championship game on Tuesday night.
The Celtics got 10 points from Claire McGrath and are now 4-0 on the season.
Gardner-South Wilmington 36, Herscher 19: The Panthers improved to 6-0 as they picked up a nonconference win.
Abby Becjk and Madelyn Storm led the way with 10 points each.
Plainfield North 47, Maine South 38: The Tigers evened their record with a win at the Lyons Invitational.
Plainfield North will wrap up their efforts at the event with a game against Chicago Fenger on Wednesday.
Newark 54, Reed-Custer 39: The Comets scored only 11 points in the second and third quarters and dropped a game at the Seneca Tournament.
Jacob Heisner led the Comets (0-2) with 16 points.
Lockport 3187, Joliet West 3102: The Porters won all three matches, albeit by narrow margins to pick up the win over the Tigers.
Jason Laba rolled the high series for Lockport with a 680.
Route 66 Raceway announces 2020 schedule: Route 66 Raceway recently announced its 2020 schedule, featuring the Route 66 NHRA Nationals (July 9 to 12), the Four Seasons Heating, Air Conditioning and Plumbing Burndown at Sundown (May 30), the D’Arcy Buick GMC Route 66 Classic (Aug. 15) and the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing (July 30 to August 2).
Fans will experience 11,000 horsepower and speeds of 300 mph with Funny Cars and Nitro-powered Dragsters accelerating from zero to 330-plus mph in under four seconds at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals. For the first time, the Route 66 Raceway will feature four new classes in Factory Stock Showdown, Top Fuel Harley, Mountain Motor Pro Stock and Pro Modified.
The addition of these four new classes complement the always exciting nitro Funny Car and Top Fuel classes.
