Crest Hill officers find man dead in bullet-riddled vehicle

Officers investigating a report of shots fired Monday morning found a slain man inside a bullet-riddled car.

Officers were dispatched to the apartments on Arbor Lane North of Theodore Street about 6 a.m., Crest Hill police Chief Ed Clark said.

The officers found a bullet-pocked vehicle parked on the street, Clark said, and a dead man was found inside the car.

Clark said the dead man was in his 30s.

The Will County Coroner’s Office had yet to identify the dead man or provide any information about him about 12 hours after the body was found by police.

Will County Deputy Chief Coroner Laurie Summers failed to return a call seeking information on the Monday morning homicide.

Officers canvassed the apartment complex looking for clues, Clark said, and the Will County Major Crimes Task Force assisted the Crest Hill police in its investigation of the slaying.

Police set up a command post inside a Will County Emergency Management Agency vehicle during the search for leads.

Investigators also sought any surveillance video residents might have that could shed light on the killing.

Crest Hill police last investigated a killing less than a month ago.

Marius Januzis, 42, accidentally shot and killed co-worker Donatas Bruzga at their job at A1 Auto & Truck Collision on North Raynor Avenue, police said.

Januzis was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter. He was released five days after he was jailed when his friend Ramunas Zitkevicius posted $500,000 bond.
