Coroner's office identifies homeless man found in vacant Joliet home

Officers found a 37-year-old homeless man dead inside of a vacant home located in the 400 block of Sherman Street in Joliet, police said.

About 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to a residence on Sherman Street after receiving an anonymous tip about a body inside of an abandoned residence, according to a statement released by the Joliet Police Department.

The officers found Damen Amos of Joliet on a mattress on the second floor of the home, according to police.

There was no indication the man suffered traumatic injuries, police said in the statement.

"An autopsy was performed that confirmed no trauma but the exact cause of death will be determined pending toxicology results," police said in the statement. "There is no indication of foul play at this point in the investigation."

Will County Deputy Chief Coroner Mark Revis said Amos' body was in a state of decomposition for at least a month. He said the home Amos was found in was vacant.

Revis said the cause or manner of Amos' death have yet to be determined.
