During his children's growing up years, Louis worked at the former Goldblatt's department store and drove a school bus for Laraway Community Consolidated School District 70C.
When Louis worked the midnight shift at Caterpillar, he readied the children for school so Linda could get to her full-time job at the former Illinois Bell.
"He worked 60 hours a week when Caterpillar was in full swing so they [the children] would have nice things," Linda said.
A mild-mannered man, Linda said Louis never argued with anyone, not even her.
"He never worried about what other people said ," Linda said. "He would never raise his voice because 'When they leave, it leaves with them. I'm not worrying about what they're saying.' He just turned the other cheek and said it's not worth the issue.
"Even when I just wanted a good old fight, he would just not say anything, and I would have to shut up because he would not argue back. It was not worth it for him. He was the kind of person people genuinely liked."
