Spring and summer are popular seasons for special events, especially proms and weddings. It’s fun to dress to the nines and have an elegant hairstyle, fancy accessories, and a manicure and pedicure that have your hands and feet looking flawless. Each season brings trendy colors and design styles; next time you go in for a no-chip mani/pedi, keep the following ideas in mind.
For a soft effect, try a buttery yellow. It illuminates the surrounding skin, and looks great with a tan. Go with silky gray for a neutral, cool look; it’s very stylish with an all-white outfit. For a light pastel hue, consider a gentle lavender.
Another hot trend is the ombre look, starting with a dark color on one end of the nail and fading to a lighter shade at the opposite end. A two-toned look with black and pewter, or with various metallics like bronze or silver, is also popular. A shimmering cobalt blue offers a nice metallic sheen, and is part of the chrome polish trend.
Graphic art is also in demand, especially on the fashion runways. Consider creating a “gold chain” look by using a nude hue on the nails, then applying a thin line of sparkly gold glitter polish on the outside edges of the nail bed. A more modern, edgy look can be created by applying a bright red or orange polish on the nail, then adding a round circle in the center in a darker color, like navy or black. The end of a pencil eraser is a great applicator for a perfect circle.
Fill in random corners of a lightly colored nail with a brighter color, or create random small shapes like triangles or squares. Use colors like pink, turquoise, or orange to create a pop of color, or choose a hue that matches your outfit. There are no rules, so get creative!
