Botox vs Fillers 101

SPONSORED

Do you want to minimize the lines appearing on your skin?

Botox and dermal fillers can do wonders for turning back the clock and both treatment options are available at Eterna MedSpa & Laser Vein Center.

What is the difference between the two?

“Filler fills the area where you have lost volume in your face,” said Kathe Malinowski, lead esthetician and marketing manager for Eterna. “The areas typically injected are the nasal labial folds, lips, marionette lines and the cheek area for volume.”

Made from Hyaluronic acid, the fillers offered at Eterna include Allergan’s Voluma, Vobella, Vollure, Juvederm, as well as Restylane.

Botox, a neurotoxin protein, stops the muscle from moving so the lines don't form.

“This is used in the forehead, crows feet and glabella area to prevent repetitive movement, thus preventing the formation of lines,” Malinowski said.

Which one is right for your skin?

“We ask clients what their concerns are and go from there — if it’s a loss of volume we use fillers. Some people like to add filler to their lips to make them fuller. When adding filler to the face it gives a more youthful appearance. If forehead lines are the concern we use Botox,” said Malinowski. “Most people new to injectables don’t really know which products are used for which area. For this reason, we do free consultations.”

During the consultation, a Visia machine is used to take photos of the top layer of the skin, as well as the deeper, dermal layers.

“So the patient can see the before and after,” Malinowski said.

While results from fillers are immediate, Botox takes about 10 days. The latter treatment lasts a few months, while some dermal fillers can last up to a year.

“Different fillers have various longevity. And one must keep in mind some people metabolize filler quicker than others. This can all be discussed with the injector,” Malinowski said.
