Three things to know about microdermabrasion

SPONSORED

Are skin troubles troubling you? Microdermabrasion could be the solution. But what can the non-invasive procedure do for your skin exactly? Here are three things to know:

1. Helps smooth and brighten skin

“Microdermabrasion is a great treatment to get rid of excessive amounts of dead skin cells,” said Kathe Malinowski, lead esthetician and marketing manager for Eterna MedSpa & Laser Vein Center.

During the procedure, the skin is cleansed and steamed with enzymes. With crystal microdermabrasion, a powerful electronic vacuum is used to gently spray high-grade microcrystals across the surface of the skin through a pressurized wand in order to slough off the damaged layers. With diamond microdermabrasion, the skin’s top layer is scuffed off with diamond tips and then vacuumed, giving the skin a fine polish.

“We finish with a mask to calm and hydrate the skin. Lastly, serum, moisturizer and SPF are applied,” Malinowsk said.

The result? A smoother, clearer, brighter complexion.

2. Helps soften fine lines and wrinkles

Having microdermabrasion done on a regular basis is an easy and effective anti-aging solution.

“Exfoliating the skin with a microdermabrasion every four to six weeks is a great way to minimize lines and wrinkles,” Malinowski said. “When you have an excess of dead skin buildup on your skin the lines and wrinkles look a lot deeper.”

The buildup can also cause complexions to look dull and rough.

“Sloughing off the dead skin cells helps the skin to look smoother,” Malinowski said.

3. Helps treat hyperpigmentation

Do you struggle with hyperpigmentation? Microdermabrasion, coupled with Hydroquinone and Retin-a, can over time help remove sunspots and other types of skin discoloration.

“It just helps to push off those excess dead skin cells,” Malinowski said.
