The pink ribbon has been the designated symbol for Breast Cancer Awareness Month for almost thirty years. The purpose of the month-long campaign is to raise awareness about breast cancer, including the importance of self-exams and mammograms, and to raise funds for research to help eradicate this terrible disease.
One specific consumer awareness initiative that is tied to breast cancer awareness is "Think Pink!”. A group that calls for transparency and accountability from companies that promote their products while raising funds for breast cancer awareness and research. The concern is that there are companies that promote pink ribbon campaigns but also manufacture products that are linked to the disease, a practice known as "Pink Abuse".
On Saturday, October 19th, Hawk Volkswagen in Joliet will host its 3rd annual "Think Pink" fundraiser for breast cancer awareness from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Free pink ribbons and bracelets will be available to all who stop by, and food and refreshments will be provided. Representatives from "Think Pink" will be present to answer questions and to talk about the group's mission.
The Pink Fire Truck, operated by "Pink Heals" representatives, will also be on site. The "Pink Heals" National Tour is funded by the sale of merchandise, gifts, local sponsorship, and in-kind donations to maintain the vehicles, purchase fuel, and travel across the country to visit communities and share the program.
The importance of this type of event cannot be overstated. It is critical for communities to come together to share knowledge, raise awareness, and collect donations for breast cancer research so that hopefully, some day in the near future, a cure will be discovered for this disease that affects 1 in 8 women.
Hawk Volkswagen will be accepting donations during the entire month of October. Visit Hawk Volkswagen, the #1 Volume Volkswagen dealership in Illinois*, and join the fight to end breast cancer.
