Coleman, Joliet W. down Plainfield E.

PLAINFIELD – Strong middle play and tough serving helped Joliet West earn its second volleyball win of the season without a loss Tuesday, 25-16, 25-9, over Plainfield East.

Four-year starter and middle hitter Elexis Coleman led the Tigers with five kills, four aces and two blocks. Junior middle hitter and three-year starter Lauren Stefanski had five kills and six digs. Amy Koerner contributed with three aces, three assists and seven digs. Nicole Ochs had three aces and six digs.


Yorkville 25-25, Joliet Central 17-9: Mari Morales lead the Steelman with 13 digs. Jicara Tate contributed three blocks.

Ottawa Marquette 25-25, Reed-Custer 9-8: Haley Richey and Alyssa Tiangco lead Reed-Custer with eight and seven digs, respectively. Kailey O’Connor, Kenna Wilkey and Mackenzie Collier each contributed a block. Kenna Wilkey had two aces.


Joliet West 3, Glenbard South 2: The Tigers got two goals from Lalo Gutierrez and another from Ivan Lopez to win the Windy City Classic match. Josh Baldobinos made 11 saves, including several in the late going, while Jayson Graves stood out at sweeper. West plays in the tournament’s third-place contest Sunday at Toyota Park.

Lemont 3, Plainfield East 2: Lemont beat Plainfield East at the Lemont Tournament. Lemont senior forward Christian Goushas had a goal and an assist. Junior defender Michael Prasauskas and freshman forward Martynas Biskis both had a goal.

Lockport 2, Lincoln-Way West 1: Tommy Calderero scored two goals for the Porters. Tim Cucci assisted Justin Yaeger on the Lincoln-Way West goal at the Lemont Tournament.

Lincoln-Way Central 7, Aurora Central Catholic 2: Jacob Lysik and Tyler Massa led the Knights’ scoring with three goals and two assists each. Nick Bergio added the final goal. Additional assists came from Adrian Prado, Matt Crnich, and Fred Bartuch.

Peotone 8, Reed-Custer 2: Eduardo Novoa scored five goals, including four in the final half, and added an assist to pace the Blue Devils. Michael Biedron and Josh Brady also scored while Troy Lensing added three assists and Andres Garcia assisted on a score.


Peotone 184, Manteno 186, Wilmington 218: Peotone outshot Manteno and Wilmington at Manteno Country Club. Peotone’s Jake Nietfeldt shot 43, earning medalist honors. Kyle Gomolski (44) and Christian Clark (47) also contributed for Peotone.

Watseka 191, Dwight/Gardner-South Wilmington 193: Nathan Zabel and Braden Marks led Dwight/Gardner-South Wilmington with a 46. Seth Galloway shot a 48.

Coal City 168, Reed-Custer 191, Westmont 222: Reed-Custer’s Sarah Maddox and Justin Weitzel both shot 45. Justin Stellano chipped in with 46.


Sycamore 3, Morris 2: After losing both singles matches, Morris won two out of the three doubles matches. Leah Lines and Monica Davy won, 6-2, 6-0, and Sarah Roth and Hanna Burbuyls won 6-3, 6-6 (5-7), 6-3.


Lincoln-Way Central 115, Hoffman Estates 64: The Knights won 11 out of 12 events to get their first win of the season.
