Two charged with reckless discharge of a firearm in Joliet

Police track through snow to make arrest

JOLIET – Police say footprints in the snow led to the arrest of two men on gun charges Sunday.

At 4:45 a.m., officers responded to shots reported in the 800 block of Julia Avenue, according to Deputy Chief Ed Gregory.

Officers found fresh tracks in the new-fallen snow and followed them from the alley to the rear door of a residence in the 800 block of East Washington Street, Gregory said.

After receiving consent to search inside, officers found Bryan J. Duarte, 21, and Lucio D. Duarte, 20, in a bedroom, pretending to sleep, Gregory said.

"Their clothing and shoes were wet with snow and the shoes matched the footprints from the alley," Gregory said. "Officers found a gun under the mattress they claimed they were sleeping on and a ski mask and ammunition."

The Duartes, who both reside in the 14700 block of South Harrison Avenue in Posen, were arrested on charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and booked into the Will County jail.

Lucio Duarte was also charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.
