NuMark Credit Union to host mortgage refinance seminar
CREST HILL – NuMark Credit Union will host a free seminar where attendees can learn when, why and how to benefit from refinancing.
Today, mortgage rates are still historically low, below 4 percent on average, according to a news release. The seminar “Mortgage Refinance Tips” will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 8 at NuMark’s Crest Hill office, 2380 Caton Farm Road. Participants will learn how to maximize the benefits of refinancing, identify what programs are available and recognize when to refinance.

inaugural Community Day
JOLIET – Cinemark Holdings Inc., which owns the movie theater in the Louis Joliet Mall at 3340 Mall Loop Drive, is holding its inaugural Community Day on Aug. 20 with a morning of free movies and discounted concessions, with proceeds benefiting WE Charity, a family of organizations that brings people together and gives them the tools to change the world, locally and globally.
Cinemark invites movie-lovers to visit any Cinemark theater from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for free DreamWorks Animation movies, including “Shrek,” “Kung Fu Panda 3,” “Home,” “How to Train Your Dragon 2” and “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted.”
Select concession items will be specially priced at $2, including small popcorn, 16-ounce soft drinks and all packaged candy.

Local RE/MAX professional ranks among most productive for 2016
CHICAGO – A distinguished group of nine RE/MAX brokers and RE/MAX sales teams in the metropolitan Chicago real estate market recently were named members of REAL Trends’ The Thousand for 2016.
This annual list reflects prior-year sales achievements in two categories: closed transaction sides and closed sales volume.
Two-hundred-fifty individual brokers and 250 sales teams nationwide are recognized in both categories, according to a news release from the company.
Among individual brokers, a local RE/MAX professional commanded a spot in the top 250 based on closed transaction sides. Ed Lukasik Jr., RE/MAX Professionals in Bolingbrook, ranked 35th.

Nominations open for inaugural Illinois Job Honor Awards
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Job Honor Awards is accepting nominations for its inaugural awards event, to be conducted Nov. 30 in Lisle.
The awards will celebrate Illinoisans who have overcome significant barriers to employment and the employers who hire them, according to a news release from organizers.
Founded in Iowa in 2014, the awards are spreading nationwide under the banner of America’s Job Honor Awards. Previous honorees have overcome physical and mental disabilities, criminal convictions, limited English proficiency and long-term unemployment in their struggle for employment.
The inaugural awards will be presented in partnership with the Illinois Chamber of Commerce and Illinois State Council for the Society for Human Resource Management at their annual New Laws Forum at the Hilton Lisle/Naperville hotel.
Top employee honorees will bring home $500 each, and winners in both the employee and employer categories will receive engraved crystal awards. Biographical videos will be presented for all honorees. “Expect some deeply moving personal stories,” says Horn.
