LOCKPORT TOWNSHIP – Two teens were shot early Sunday at a family party in Lockport Township.
Will County Sheriff's spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said police were called about 3 a.m. to the 17000 block of Oak Avenue after the attack was reported.
Deputies arrived to find several cars fleeing the area and one parked vehicle with the side window and front windshield shattered by bullets, according to Hoffmeyer.
Witnesses told deputies guests had been dancing to a DJ's music when someone began shooting from an unknown direction, Hoffmeyer said. While everyone scattered, they saw a 15-year-old girl laying near the vehicle that had been struck.
"The girl was then carried to another vehicle by friends and was driven to Silver Cross Hospital with a gunshot wound to her leg," Hoffmeyer said.
When deputies arrived at the hospital in New Lenox they learned a 19-year-old man who'd also been at the party had been brought to the hospital by friends and was being treated for a gunshot wound to his leg.
Both victims’ injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to Hoffmeyer.
The incident was under investigation Monday.
