A new treatment is helping patients turn back time when it comes to their skin.
Through Platelet Rich Plasma therapy, a client’s own blood plasma is used to rejuvenate the face and neck, said Kathe Malinowski, lead esthetician and marketing manager for Eterna MedSpa & Laser Vein Center.
How does it work?
First, the patient’s blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge at high speeds so the plasma rises to the top. That plasma, rich in platelets, is then drawn out and re-injected into the client’s face and neck.
“This treatment works with the collegen in your skin to help smooth out fine lines — plasma is in the blood not the skin.” Malinowski said.
Another perk of Platelet Rich Plasma therapy? Besides rejuvenating the skin on the neck and face, improvements have also been noted in skin tone/tightness, horizontal lines, texture and smoothness, folds, pigmentation, and scarring.
Who is an ideal candidate for the treatment?
“Anyone who has fine lines, lines problem with texture and laxity,” Malinowski said. “It is also used to help with hairloss.”
The most commonly reported side effects include mild bruising from the injection or pain at the site of injection. Because the skin of the face and neck is sensitive, most practitioners will apply a topical anesthetic cream or gel before performing Platelet Rich Plasma injections.
For optimal results the treatment can be used in conjunction with other anti-aging services and retin-a and depending on issues with the skin Obagi® NuDerm system.
