JOLIET - Police say a man brought a backpack full of weed to an apartment complex Thursday.
About 11 a.m. police were called to the 400 block of Kungs Way after witnesses reported a suspicious man lurking around the building.
"When officers arrived, they saw a man - who did not have a shirt, but was wearing a backpack - that took off running through the building and onto the bike path," Capt. Jeff Allbert said.
The suspect was captured a short time later in the 2200 block of Mayfield Avenue and identified as William H. Asbury, 31. According to Allbert, Asbury did not have a backpack with him, so officers backtracked toward Kungs Way and found the pack in a garbage can in the 500 block of Westnedge Road.
"The backpack contained 331 grams of cannabis, a digital scale and plastic baggies," Allbert said. "Asbury was also carrying $820 in the soles of his shoes."
Asbury, of the 2800 block of West Henderson Street in Chicago, was arrested and booked into the Will County jail on charges of delivery of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing justice.
