A “major dealer” of heroin was captured and jailed Friday, the Braidwood police said.
Jonathon Stanford, 31, of the 200 block of North Center Street, was arrested Friday around 2:40 p.m. on charges of possession and delivery of heroin. Both charges are Class X felonies because Stanford's residence is within 1,000 feet of a park.
Braidwood police officer Thomas Friddle, who supervises the department's drug unit, said Stanford served about two dozen heroin users in the area.
Friddle said police received a tip from a “confidential source” about a heroin deal at the Center Street residence. Officers set up at the house around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, witnessed a hand-to-hand exchange of heroin and moved in to arrest Stanford. Friddle said police had been observing the residence for about six months for possible dealing of heroin.
