Police: Walmart employee took roughly $400 of items from store, gave them to friends

JOLIET – A Walmart employee stole nearly $400 worth of items from the store, police said.

After 8 a.m. Tuesday, Kaleigh S. Brooks, 33, of the 3200 block of West Beach Avenue, Chicago, was arrested by Joliet police and charged with retail theft.

Between July 21 and Saturday, Brooks allegedly voided nine transactions on store items from Walmart, 2424 W. Jefferson St., and placed those unpaid items in shopping bags as if they had been scanned, said Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory.

Brooks then allegedly gave those items to her friends.

On Tuesday, the store manager confronted Brooks about the transactions and did a review that revealed the amount of transactions that had been voided, Gregory said.

Brooks was arrested and released on her own recognizance.
