ROMEOVILLE – An industrial building that has been closed for several years may be a total loss after a fire early Thursday.
Romeoville Village Manager Steve Gulden said no one was injured in the fire, which occurred at Northfield Block Company off Ridgewood Avenue, near Stone City Saloon.
The Romeoville Fire Department responded about 2 a.m. to the fire at 717 Parkwood St., northeast of the intersection of Normantown Road and Route 53.
Fire crews were on the scene throughout the day Thursday. The village building department also inspected the structure.
“They knocked down a couple unstable walls and the site is being secured with fencing,” Gulden said.
Northfield, which has been in business since 1949, approached the village in the past six months to apply for permits to remodel, renovate and reopen the building, Gulden said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“The structure appears to be a total loss,” Gulden said.
