JOLIET – After studying Moses and the exodus out of Egypt, the sixth-graders from St. Mary Nativity Catholic School in Joliet concluded their study by replicating the Seder meal that the Israelites celebrated on the first Passover.
The students’ celebration connected the Jewish celebration and prayers to the Catholic celebration of the Mass.
Traditional foods were eaten, such as lamb, eggs, haroset (apples), grape juice, herbs and unleavened bread. This experience helped the children understand their Christian faith and its roots in Jewish tradition.
