LOCKPORT – The Will County Coroner’s Office identified two people killed in a head-on collision Monday afternoon on a Lockport bridge as a Joliet man and a Crest Hill man.

Gabriel M. Moreno, 20, of Crest Hill, was driving a Chevrolet SUV east about 1 p.m. Monday on the Ninth Street Bridge east of Illinois Route 53 when the vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and struck a Ford truck head-on, Illinois State Police and coroner’s office officials said.

The driver of the truck was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. Moreno and his passenger, Gary L. Floyd, 60, of Joliet, were taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet and Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox respectively.

Moreno was pronounced dead at 2:18 p.m. and Floyd was pronounced dead at 2:10 p.m.

All lanes of traffic were shut down in both directions of the bridge for about three hours, and police encouraged motorists to avoid the area.

No charges were listed in connection with the incident as of Monday evening.
Autopsies performed Tuesday revealed both men died from multiple injuries related to the crash.
Illinois State Police continued to investigate the incident.
