Joliet looks at new uses for big-box stores
JOLIET – Toys R Us is about to join a growing list of big-box and retail vacancies as it starts liquidation sales in Joliet and elsewhere – but it’s not a hopeless situation.
At least one potential broker already is interested in the Joliet store.
“We’ve been reaching out to Toys R Us to talk with them about what they’re doing with it. We’re interested,” said Jim Schutter, a broker with Newmark Knight Frank.
The firm is interested in combining the Toys R Us location with eight open acres next to it, hoping to create a more attractive site for retail development close to the Louis Joliet Mall.
