JOLIET – Democrats have nominated former Joliet City Councilmember Tim Brophy to be their candidate for Will County treasurer in the Nov. 6 election, according to a news release Brophy issued Thursday.
Brophy was nominated to fill a vacancy on the ballot when no one ran for treasurer in the Democratic primary in March.
He would run against incumbent Treasurer Steve Weber, who was unopposed in the Republican primary. Democratic precinct workers still need to collect at least 1,202 petition signatures to put Brophy on the ballot, according to the release. The Will County Democratic Central Committee made the nomination when it met Wednesday.
Brophy was a Joliet councilmember from 1995 to 2011. He lost his council seat to Bob O’Dekirk, who was elected mayor four years later.
Brophy is the associate executive director for the North American Spine Society and a real estate broker for Dow Realty in Joliet.
He also serves as president of the Will County Habitat for Humanity, president of the Irish American Society of County Will, and is a member of the Joliet Arsenal Development Authority.
