JOLIET – The Rialto Square Theatre has announced a retro movie series.
The Rialto will show six movies on six Tuesdays from May 22 through Oct. 30 with the admission price set at $5.
The series is being called #TBTuesday Summer Movie Series and “is a nod to our Vaudeville movie palace past,” the Rialto said in a news release Friday.
The Rialto “will feature past and recently past movies for the entire family, shown on the retro movie screen by the new projector generously donated by the Rialto Square volunteers,” the release said.
The series starts with the most recent “Star Wars” movie, released in 2017.
“That’s our newest one,” Rialto marketing director Micah McDade said. “It’s right before Star Wars Days so that was planned.”
Star Wars Day in downtown Joliet will be June 2.
All movies will be shown at 7 p.m. They are:
• “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” on May 22
• “Independence Day” on June 26
• “The Sandlot” on July 24
• “Father of the Bride” (1991) on Aug. 28
• “The Sound of Music” on
• “Young Frankenstein” on
The Rialto said the theater was able to keep ticket prices at $5 because of support from sponsors of the movie series.
Sponsors are 1st Choice Temporary Services, Holiday Inn & Suites Joliet-Southwest, Country Financial and the Rialto Square Theatre Volunteers.
A bar and concession stand will be open for movie nights. All ticket sales will be the day of the movie at the Rialto box office, 102 N. Chicago St., Joliet. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
