Morris school announces 128th graduating class

The commencement ceremony for the Class of 2018, the 128th graduating class of Immaculate Conception School, was held during a 7 p.m. Liturgy on May 17.

The commencement ceremony for the Class of 2018, the 128th graduating class of Immaculate Conception School, was held during a 7 p.m. liturgy May 17.

The graduates processed into the church to the traditional “Pomp and Circumstance” played by Brent Mitchell. Brady Danek led his classmates, carrying a standard that was decorated in the school colors of blue and gold. The Rev. Ed Howe was the celebrant at the Mass.

Rhett Barkley presented the first reading, and Jeffrey Bzdill read the second reading. The intercessions were read by Hannah McGhee, Grace Lines and Kylie Villarreal. Gift bearers at the presentation were Jackson Christensen, Matthew Munsell, Alma Repond, Daniel Cisneros and Alexa Edwards.

Principal Kim DesLauriers, presented the graduates to those present and Fr. Howe awarded them their diplomas. Chris Danek, president of the ICS School Board, and a graduate of ICS, assisted him. American Legion Awards were presented to Hannah McGhee and Brady Danek.

DesLauriers presented American Citizenship Awards to Alexa Edwards, Grace Lines, Finn Paulson and Sully Norris.

Alexa Edwards, Alma Repond, Samuel Thorson, Jeffrey Bzdill, Brady Danek, Brianna Funk, Grace Lines, Hannah McGhee and Mac Johnston received the President’s Education Award for having maintained at least a 3.5 GPA and scoring in the 80th percentile on standardized tests their seventh- and eighth-grade years.

Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics certificates were presented to those with the highest math average in each of the two math groups. Briannna Funk received it for the pre-algebra group and Alexa Edwards for the algebra group.

The President’s Physical Fitness Award was presented to Brady Danek and Jeffrey Bzdill. Hannah McGhee and Alexa Edwards were presented with certificates for their perfect attendance for the eighth-grade year.

In his remarks, Mr. DesLauriers recognized the 10 families of the class of 2018 who will no longer have a child attending Immaculate Conception School.

The cross bearer for the Mass was Mr. DesLauriers. Servers were Gretchen Zarbock, Felcity Emmerich and Cailey Danek. Ushers were Finley Johnston, Bergen Paulson and Sam Christensen.

Cantor for the Mass was Meg Gile, an ICS alumnus.
