The Edward Foundation raised $440,000 at its 25th annual Charity Golf Tournament on July 16 at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont.
The foundation, the charitable fundraising organization of Edward Hospital, was established in 1990 and has raised more than $49.9 million in its mission to support Edward Hospital’s community health care initiatives.
More than 300 golfers donated funds through sponsorships, donations, raffles, games and the purchase of tournament contest bracelets.
Celebrity guests included Tom Waddle, former Chicago Bear and co-host of Waddle and Silvy on ESPN 1000 Chicago, and Dionne Miller, weekend sports anchor and reporter, ABC7 Eyewitness News.
The winning team on Cog Hill’s Dubsdread course included Bill Hayes, Tyler Weber, Chris Maul and Johnny Zitko.
The winning team on Cog Hill’s Course #1 and #3 included Mark Cronin, Jack Kenney, John Momper, Jr. and John Momper, Sr.
The event featured a Helicopter Ball Drop in which entrants paid for a chance to have a numbered golf ball dropped from a helicopter and land closest to the flag. The winner was Doug Johnson of Elmhurst.
The foundation’s next major event and fundraiser, its 28th annual gala, "The Big Gig: Swing," will be held Oct. 13 at The Westin Hotel in Lombard.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. with cocktails and silent auction, followed by dinner, dancing and a live auction.
A portion of the funds raised this year will help fund the foundation’s Cardiac Innovations Campaign which will support construction of the structural heart center and a new three-story medical office building on the northeast corner of the Edward Hospital campus.
The facility will house physician offices, patient/family education and a chronic care outpatient center. In addition, new 12-bed intensive care and 12-bed observation units will replace the current physician office space on the fourth floor of Edward Heart Hospital.
A variety of sponsorship opportunities are available, tables of 10 or individual tickets can be purchased, and individuals and businesses can donate items for the silent and live auctions.
In addition, the gala will feature a “Golden Paddle Raffle” ($100 for one ticket, $200 for three tickets). The winner will choose one of the following items: Golden Paddle worth $5,000 to bid on Live Auction packages, $1,000 cash or vacation packages for two in Costa Rica, Napa Valley or Pebble Beach.
