A 19-year-old from Joliet was shot to death Sunday morning on East Dover Street.

Jermaine Peete was gunned down about 12:30 a.m. on East Dover Street near North Garnsey Avenue. He was pronounced dead at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center.

Peete lived on Parkwood Drive, less than 3 miles from where he was shot, according to Will County court records.

Police had little information to offer on Peete’s death or the progress made in tracking down any suspects.

“The investigation is in the beginning stages, and the detectives are working through the different leads and gathering evidence still,” Joliet Deputy Police Chief Darrell Gavin said in a text message.

Peete was listed in the April 2013 obituary of Devin Peete, 21, as a surviving brother.

Devin Peete was shot on Rosalind Street near Fairview Avenue, just outside Joliet city limits. At the time, police said, shell casings were found on the city side of the boundary line, and the Joliet Police Department initiated an investigation.

After it was determined that Devin Peete had been shot outside the city, the case was taken by the Will County Sheriff’s Office.
