A Minooka woman was killed in a crash Saturday morning on Interstate 80.
Julie McKinney, 28, was pronounced dead about 9 a.m. at the scene of the crash near mile marker 125 in Troy Township, according to a news release from the Will County Coroner’s Office.
McKinney was heading east when she crashed into the back of a semitractor-trailer, according to the release.
Illinois State Police responded to the fatal wreck east of River Road at 8:30 a.m., according to a news release from ISP.
A Freightliner semitractor-trailer was “traveling in the left lane on I-80 when it was forced to stop because of stopped traffic from a prior crash ahead,” according to the state police.
McKinney’s Nissan Rogue was behind the truck and failed to stop, state police said, and crashed into the back of the trailer.
The truck driver was uninjured in the crash, police said.
State police shut down all eastbound lanes for hours after the wreck. Traffic was rerouted on Ridge Road.
McKinney’s autopsy was scheduled for Sunday, according to the coroner’s office.
Less than 45 minutes later, troopers responded to another I-80 incident after vehicles crashed about 12 miles east near the exit to Route 30 in New Lenox.
The crash occurred about 10 a.m. on eastbound I-80, state police said.
