A 55-year-old man who was convicted of stealing from a Jewel-Osco store was arrested on charges of obstructing justice, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At 12:10 a.m. Saturday, Antonio D. Pierce, 55, of the 600 block of East Cass Street was arrested in the first block of McDonough Street. He was charged with obstructing justice, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Joliet Deputy Police Chief Darrell Gavin did not provide information on the arrest Monday.

Pierce was taken to the Will County jail after his arrest. He is being held on a $5,000 bond, of which $500 is needed to post bail for his release.

On Dec. 19, Pierce pleaded guilty to retail theft. Pierce had been arrested on Nov. 28 when he tried to steal merchandise from Jewel-Osco on West Jefferson Street.

Pierce reportedly told staff the items he was trying to steal came from another store.

After Pierce was taken to the police station, he complained of chest pain, but when officers went to handcuff him to take him to the hospital, he resisted. After a brief struggle, he was handcuffed. After his hospital stay, he was taken to jail,

Pierce had been jailed on a $100,000 bond until he was released on Dec. 19, when he pleaded guilty. He was released on that day.
