To the Editor:
I wish to address the absurd policy of most businesses to make public statements after accidents, usually where people get hurt or killed saying, "our #1 priority is safety. Safety of customers and employees."
If that was the case, then why are they in the news for tragedies in the first place? All too often after investigations are finished it's proven that lack of safety or non-adherence is what caused it. Or cost of safety is more common.
There should be no cost too high for safety of people, none. If the cost of safety is too high for your business, then you shouldn't be doing business, period. In almost all cases, the ones that cheat safety due to costs are not the same ones who could be directly affected by lack of safety.
If they were then they'd probably change their tune.
