Why Hamiti was selected: The sophomore repeated as a Class 2A champion after taking first place at 126 and going 42-4. He became the first Hilltoppers athlete to capture more than one individual state title.
Herald-News sports writer Curt Herron talked with Hamiti.
Herron: What do you like the most about wrestling?
Hamiti: I like how it's individual and that you don't have to rely on anybody but you have to rely on yourself for what you can do on a team.
Herron: What do you like most about this year's team?
Hamiti: I liked how we worked together really well and made each other better every day in the practice room.
Herron: What do you like the most about competing for Joliet Catholic?
Hamiti: I like how the coaches work with everyone and not just certain kids.
Herron: What do you want to do in your free time?
Hamiti: Just play video games or watch TV.
Herron: What's your favorite sports team and who's your favorite athlete?
Hamiti: I like the Penn State wrestling team. And my favorite athlete is David Taylor, who is on the World Team.
Herron: What do you want to do in your future?
Hamiti: In the next two years I want to win state again. And then maybe commit to a college. I'd like to study physical science or physical therapy.
Herron: Who is someone that you'd like to meet?
Hamiti: Kyle Dake, who is on the World Team.
Herron: What's your favorite type of food and place to eat?
Hamiti: Any food is good. And Nabby's.
