State Rep. Mark Batinick is hosting a free self-defense class for women in his district on March 21. Educators at One-Light Self-Defense will teach the seminars, which will include self-defense and distraction and awareness tactics. Girls and women ages 12 and up are encouraged to attend.
“This is a great event that gives women the right tools to protect themselves,” Batinick said in a news release. “Providing these defensive techniques and promoting overall awareness will help put these women in the best position to ensure their safety.”
Although the class is free, any donations will be given to Women at Risk International, an organization that fights against human trafficking and rehabilitates victims.
The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. March 21 at the Community Christian Church in Plainfield, 24035 Riverwalk Court. Anyone who would like to RSVP can call Batinick’s district office at 815-254-0000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
