Work on the Cass Street bridge at Spring Creek in Joliet will require lane closures starting April 22, the Illinois Department of Transportation said.
The lane closures will be between Youngs and Henderson avenues, and the start date for the work is dependent on the weather, IDOT said in a news release.
Cass Street in that area also is Route 30.
Eastbound lanes will be closed initially, and traffic will be shifted to the westbound lanes to provide one lane in each direction. Once work is completed in the eastbound lanes, the westbound lanes will be closed with traffic shifted to continue providing one lane of traffic in each direction.
The project is expected to be complete in June.
IDOT did not provide details of the work other than to say it would involve "improvements" made to the bridge.
IDOT said it will provide updates its projects on its website, idot.illinois.gov.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and to watch for flaggers and other workers when driving through the area.
