Why Buchanan was selected: The Spartans senior won championships in the both the discus and shot put at last weekend's Naperville North Scott Invite. His 180 feet, two inch discus throw is the third-best in Illinois while his 60-8 shot put ranks him fourth in the state.
Herald-News sports writer Curt Herron talked with Buchanan.
Herron: What do you like the most about track and field?
Buchanan: The thing that I like the most is that anything can happen and track and field is a beautiful sport since you you can talk to anybody and learn new things.
Herron: What do you like the most about this year's team?
Buchanan: Our potential is through the roof. We have a young team but they get it down and realize what they can do, the sky's the limit.
Herron: What do you like the most about competing for Romeoville?
Buchanan: The best part is being a Spartan and representing Romeoville, which needs to be represented since we have a lot of talent here.
Herron: What do you want to do in the future?
Buchanan: I'm attending Illinois State University to study physical education and also compete in track and field.
Herron: Who's your favorite sports team and athlete?
Buchanan: The Bulls or Lakers. Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Herron: Who would you like to meet?
Buchanan: LeBron James.
Herron: Do you have any pets?
Buchanan: A beagle-basset hound-golden retriever mix named Benny.
Herron: What's your favorite type of food?
Buchanan: Chicken and hot wings.
Herron: What do you like to do in your free time?
Buchanan: Lifting, watching U-tube videos and eating.

Herron: Where is the most interesting place you've been and where would you like to visit?
Buchanan: Sacramento, California. And Los Angeles.
