To the Editor:
A Freedom of Information request by The Herald-News about the suspected bank robber who was killed by a Joliet police officer was denied by the Joliet Police Department.
All we know is that the officer went to question the suspect at his residence and the suspect threatened him with a box cutter knife and the officer shot him to death.
The Joliet Police Department's reason for its refusal to release information is because they say they are still investigating. What exactly are they investigating? The suspect is dead. It's too late to charge him with the bank robbery; he won't be able to defend himself.
Or can it be possible they made a mistake and shot the wrong man and need more time to fix their account of what happened?
