Letters to the Editor for June 11

Abortion is not health care

To the Editor:

Our nation has a lot for the world to look at: our technology, democracy, medicine, Medicare, Social Security ... the list goes on.

Yet abortion rights cast a shadow over all.

The Illinois Legislature defines abortion as health care and a fundamental right.

Abortion is not health care, nor is the killing of an unborn a right.

How shallow a politician sounds when he says he is pro-choice, instead of promoting death. Why isn’t he finding ways to help the pregnant mother? Sex education, helping the unwed mother and better adoption services all are pro-life. I believe abortion is a dark tunnel where there is no escape. An aborted child will not see the blue sky or the bright sun. The guilt is on everyone because “we are the people.” To do nothing is to say yes to abortion.

I urge all people to vote and act against this evil. The future of the human race lies in the sanctity of life.

Atheism is not a religion

To the Editor:

There are those who say atheism is simply another religion. They claim belief in nonbelief to be just another belief. Let’s do a side-by-side comparison to see if this is true.

Issue Christianity Atheism

God Yes No

Creation Yes No

Miracles Yes No

Savior Yes No

Heaven Yes No

Hell Yes No

Bible Yes No

End times Yes No

Oh wait, now I see it. They share so much common ground, I don’t know what I was thinking. If atheism truly is another religion, then not collecting stamps is a hobby.

Accountability for
migrant child deaths?

To the Editor:

Five migrant children have died at the border. Where is the accountability? Isn’t one death too many? It doesn’t look like any measures have been implemented to prevent these tragedies. The government doesn’t seem to care as long as the border is secure. Have we become inured to migrant children dying at our border? It sure looks like we have.

Kudos to West scholars and athletes

To the Editor:

I had the recent honor of attending a spectacular event on May 16 at Joliet West High School: the senior awards ceremony. These academic (scholarship) and student/athlete award winners’ academic achievements were celebrated before a very receptive standing-room audience.

This celebration renews our faith for a very bright future in our community and world, led by all of these tremendously talented high school seniors. Congratulations to all of these well-deserving elite students for a job well done.
