Felony charges have been filed against a 22-year-old man who allegedly eluded a Crest Hill police officer during a high-speed chase and then crashed his car in a wreck that left a 60-year-old man dead.

Anthony L. Casterberry of Joliet has been charged with reckless homicide, aggravated reckless driving, failure to report an accident, possession of a weapon by a felon, five counts of aggravated fleeing, and driving on a suspended license, according to court records.

Crest Hill Police Chief Ed Clark said Casterberry has been identified as the suspect who drove a Mitsubishi Endeavor that crashed into a car in a wreck that left Suos Khloth dead on May 26.

Casterberry fled from Crest Hill police at a high rate of speed after he was caught speeding near the intersection of Theodore Street and Edgerton Drive, police said.

Casterberry crashed into the car Khloth was driving near the intersection of West Jefferson Street and South Redwood Drive.

Casterberry and Jeremiah Grubbs, 18, of Joliet, fled on foot following the crash, police said, but Grubbs was apprehended and jailed.

Clark said police are searching for Casterberry, whose last known address is in the 900 block of Fisk Avenue.

“We are currently looking for him to bring him into custody,” Clark said.

Will County Judge Victoria Kennison signed a warrant for Casterberry’s arrest on Friday, Clark said. The warrant carries a bond of $750,000.

Crest Hill police are conducting an internal investigation of an officer’s pursuit of Casterberry.

Crest Hill Deputy Police Chief Bradley Hertzmann said the investigation is being conducted to see if the officer’s pursuit of Casterberry was in compliance with their department’s policies and procedures.

Sam Mullin, a friend of Khloth, said he also was told the police were chasing the vehicle.

The police and another vehicle “were involved in a high-speed chase,” Mullin said.

Khloth “got hit at a very high rate of speed and hit a tree,” he said.

Mullin said he was with Khloth and some other friends shortly before the crash.

“We were together at a friend’s house Saturday night,” Mullin said. “We left to pick up a friend. He left Plainfield.”

Khloth was a member of the area’s close-knit Cambodian community, Mullin said, and his death “has disturbed the Cambodian community.”

Mullin said his wife, who is Cambodian, was friends with Khloth for close to 30 years.

He said Khloth was a married father and grandfather.
