A fire spread from a Plainfield home’s deck into the rest of the house, causing about $80,000 in damage Wednesday.
Plainfield residents arrived home about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 13000 block of Denise Street in unincorporated Plainfield and found black smoke inside their attached garage, according to a news release from the Plainfield Fire Protection District. The home’s smoke alarms also were going off. The homeowners immediately called 911, according the release.
Fire crews later learned the blaze had begun on the home’s deck and spread inside the home, near the kitchen.
“The Plainfield Fire Protection District urges everyone to please keep decks clear of heat sources and open flames,” the release said.
No one was injured during the incident, but fire and smoke damage made the home uninhabitable and caused $80,000 in damage, Chief Jon Stratton said.
The fire’s cause remained under investigation Friday.
Fire crews from Bolingbrook, Romeoville, Lockport and more assisted Plainfield firefighters.
