Friends of Samantha Harer, a woman who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at her Channahon apartment in 2018, are raising money for a scholarship in her memory.
Harer’s friends will host a fundraiser with food, music and a silent auction from noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 8 at the University of St. Francis’ Moser Performing Arts Center in Joliet. All the proceeds will go toward the Samantha Harer Memorial Scholarship at USF. Harer was a 2016 graduate of USF, where she studied criminal justice and was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. Some of her sorority sisters have been raising money to fund the scholarship. To learn more about the fundraiser, visit eventbrite.com.
Her parents are suing former Crest Hill police officer Felipe “Phil” Flores and accusing him of causing her death. Harer and Flores had dated, and he was the only person with her when she died.
