A massive Thursday morning crash on Interstate 80 that involved a pair of semitrailers and a single passenger vehicle snarled traffic in both directions, backing the westbound lanes all the way from Rowell Avenue in Joliet to LaGrange Road in Mokena.
The westbound lanes were shut down after the crash, said Illinois state police Master Sgt. DeAnn Falat, the spokeswoman for the state police District 5 headquarters, and stopped traffic stretched east for at least 10 miles.
Rubberneckers in the westbound lanes caused heavy delays in that direction as well.
The semitrailers and the car crashed about 10 a.m., Falat said, and diesel spilled from one of the truck’s ruptured fuel tanks.
The violent crash resulted in no injuries, Falat said.
The wreckage was cleared from the westbound lanes, and the road was reopened about noon, about two hours after the crash.
