Two men were arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred in the 2400 block of West Jefferson Street, police said.
Shortly before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers went to the 2400 block of West Jefferson Street, the same block where Walmart, Wingstop and Panda Express are located, after receiving a report of shots fired, police said.
Sgt. Christopher Botzum did not respond when asked if the shooting occurred at any of those businesses.
“Officers were able to determine that occupants of a black SUV had fired shots at another vehicle,” police said, adding that no one was wounded.
Police said the vehicle was spotted a short time later exiting Interstate 80 at Chicago Street, and officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver refused to pull over.
“One of the occupants threw a firearm out of the vehicle near Chicago Street and Patterson Road during the pursuit,” police said, and the vehicle was stopped shortly after.
Mitchell Thompson, 25, and Shaquan Meadows, 26, both of Joliet, were arrested, and a loaded firearm was recovered from the side of the road near Chicago Street and Patterson Road, police said.
Thompson was charged with obstructing, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, felony possession of a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm, according to court records. He also faces several traffic charges, including fleeing from an officer.
No charges had been filed against Meadows by Thursday afternoon.
