Area roundup: Joliet Township girls golf team sets school record

The Joliet Township girls golf team turned in a stellar performance durig Monday’s triangular meet at Inwood.

Joliet posted a 166 team score, easily outdistancing runner-up Beecher (204) and Joliet Catholic (254). The team set a school record for a nine-hole event.

Anna Talarico recorded a career best round of 40 to lead Joliet. Also posting a career best was Emma Cameron, who shot a 42. Maddy Palmer and Morgan Anderson each shot rounds of 42.


Gardner-South Wilmington def. Dwight, 25-11, 25-17: The Panthers got a strong performance at the net from Kaitlynn Kavanaugh as she had eight kills and two blocks in a nonconference victory.

Kennedy Fair dished out 17 assists for the Panthers (4-2).

Peotone def. Clifton Central, 25-19, 25-12: McKenna Evans had a solid match with 14 assists, three digs, nine service points and two aces as the Blue Devils earned a nonconference win.


Lewis women claim fourth: The Lewis women’s golf team opened its season by finishing fouth at the Southern Indiana Women’s Inviational at Cambridge Golf Course in Evansville, Indiana, on Sunday and Monday.

Lewis put together a two-day score of 633. Kasey Kane’s two-day total of 152 (78-74) tied her for sixth place individually, while Jackie Moreno and Caiya Dewitt both tied for 24th with a 160.


JJC to host home run derby: Hit for power and help the Joliet Junior College Softball Team by participating in their annual Home Run Derby at noon Sept. 28 on the JJC softball field.

The entry fee is $5 for five pitches, and the sluggers with the most home runs in male and female divisions will receive JJC Wolves prize bags.

In addition, an alumni/family game will be played at 11 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, the home run derby will be postponed until 5 p.m. Sept. 30.
