A Northern Illinois University field assistant has been arrested on charges alleging that he made an unauthorized video recording of a minor while she was in a bathroom, according to court records.
Jay Vecchiet, 31, of Plainfield, was arrested and taken to the Will County jail shortly after 4 p.m. Monday. Plainfield police are investigating. He was released from jail about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday after he posted 10% of his $150,000 bond.
Will County Judge Sarah Jones had signed a warrant Friday for Vecchiet’s arrest. According to the warrant, Vecchiet works for NIU, and his girlfriend’s protective order said he worked in the university’s biology department.
Vecchiet’s LinkedIn profile details that he is a field assistant at the university.
Vecchiet is charged with two counts of unauthorized video recording of a minor between the dates of June 1 and July 21.
The video recordings allegedly were taken in the bathroom of his home, according to a criminal complaint.
